complex one to handle. Often the relationship depends on what kind of memories you had together growing up, sweet or bitter or traumatic. Those memories do create a wall in between and you don't dare to jump it often. But what if those memories itself are fading away because of dementia, it surely is a bad thing but here disease itself comes as a second chance between this mother and daughter duo to reconnect their lost relationship but had to relive those old horrifying memories again. The film is gentle,warm but offers more than a simple narrative. it lets you look into the complex realities of their relationship with their dark past and how vulnerable they are with each other. The title goldfish is very brilliantly used in the film, there is a misconception that goldfish has short memory and here we see deepti naval 's character losing her memory, then there is also back story of goldfish which really had traumatic effect on Kalki's character. We also see colors of gold on kalki often in the movie, her hair, her dresses, kind of metaphor that in a way over the years in their estranged relationship she had become a goldfish, she hardly remember/knows her mother's life, do not remember her likes and dislikes. Do not remember her own roots. I like that very much, they both were goldfish who reconnected and made a new memory. The film also delicately handles themes of love,loss and friendship beautifully. But the performances make the movie more beautiful, both Deepti & Kalki were effortless and at ease with their characters. That final scene where both characters have a cup of tea looking out of the window, and in the background Papon's ghazal is playing, that just hits so perfectly. A damn good end to a nonchalant but anxious and traumatic relationship and beginning of a new one and endless possibilities to make more sweet memories.
