RK is a filmmaker, making a new film, in which he also plays the lead character of Mahboob. Its a quaint film, like a tribute to the cinema of the sixties. People close to him are not really sure why RK wants to make this film.. Edit begins and RK has a sinking feeling that this film is not going to come together, that this time he has really screwed up. His nightmares warn him of an impending disaster. Sure enough, one afternoon RK gets a call from the edit room- something terrible has happened. Mahboob has run away, run out of the film. Nobody can really understand why would he leave, where would he go. But he is not there anymore in the rushes- missing from the film negative as well. The fact is Mahboob was running away from his killers, and somehow he left the film and arrived in our world. RK finds him, brings him home- but Mahboob has no idea where he is from, or that he is any different from people around him. Slowly, he is told. They must convince him to go back to the film, so that RK can finish his film.

MAN OF CINEMA

How the fuck this film is not on OTT? It is one of the rarest gems hindi cinemahas produced. The man who created a masterpiece like " Ankhon Dekhi" Rajat Kapoor has directed and acted in this film. It is in a way that feels like a semi biography of him or every other creator. The story is about film maker RK who has completed shooting his film and is in the process of editing that is when his main character of the film who is played himself has gone missing inside the film and has now come alive in the real world. At that moment the line between reel and reality blurs and chaos happens, now RK must find him and convince to go back inside the film so that he can complete his film in release. The premise of the film is so surreal, weird and filled with elements which are imaginary. But the movie's real depth and meaning only some people can extract out. RK is a creator like any other creator is going under an existential crisis as well as questions raised about his creativity. The story and ending he has written is not likable to others and they want to change it, but RK really wants that ending the way it is. And there is a fight Within himself, a character which he created is everything is wants to be, but he is not in real life. We often fantasised to be someone else in our consciousness, who is more perfect and better than ourselves. Now these two differences are running parallel in his mind. The RKay(mehboob) who came alive is nothing but his figment of his own imagination that he is constantly fighting with. He has lost in his own duality and is searching for that clarity in his life and he also wants to write his ending by his own hands. Its fucking brilliant, the way rajat kapoor has showcased these thoughts in totally materialistic way. If you notice there is always slight golden light on mehboob even when he is out in real life, which is also an indication that he is not real, but towards the end both become the same, nothing to differentiate. Rk has taken the place of RKAY and RKAY has taken the place of RK. He finally found that clarity. Camera movement is also very brilliant, in the film the camera is very still and linear motion. But in real life the camera is shaky and has a sense of chaos. It shows the elements of diquite, distemper, despair in his life which he talks about( bechaini, bekarari and badhavasi). This film is a must watch!
