It is possible that this just happened to me - but I found it rather difficult
It is possible that this just happened to me - but I found it rather difficult to actually invest in the core of Heeramandi's story. It is so intricately, painstakingly detailed in its aesthetics that the spectacle of it felt exhausting after a while - as though the ornamentation was distracting me from the narrative.
It felt like a story that was about trauma and resilience has been fashioned into a baroque ornament, where you have to labour to see the humanity beneath all the gloss. The visual aspect of it felt wearyingly elaborate. If it wasn't for the moving performances by the actors, I don't think I would be invested in the character arcs.
