The upcoming weekend is going to be absolutely bonkers in terms of content
The upcoming weekend is going to be absolutely bonkers in terms of content across languages. What is considered to be the Pongal release date, you have everything from Thalapathy Vijay and his family entertainer Varisu, a bank heist film with Ajith Kumar called Thunivu, Nandmuri Balakrishna, a channel favourite coming with his massy over the top VEER SIMHA REDDY and Chiranjeevi and Ravi Teja coming with Walter Veerayya, the craziest of the lot of releases being that Shruti Haasan is romancing two heroes in films releasing on the same weekend and while the age gap looks widely uncomfortable, there is a hindi release also taking place in the coming weekend, which is Kuttey directed by Aaasman Bhardwaj, which looks absolutely interesting with its stellar star cast but there is little to no hype for the particular film. Through this video, I wanted to speak about the trailers that have come out about the upcoming releases, my first thoughts and posing the question to you of which movie you are most excited for and why in the comments below!
I’ll be honest when I saw the H Vinoth directed film Valimai last year, I was left with nothing but a void, as if a film was created with the most generic tropes of family sentiment, a preachy social message and the celebration of a star that beyond the action sequences on the bikes, it left little to no impact. So when I was about to click on the trailer of Thunivu, another collaboration among Boney Kapoor, H Vinoth and Ajith Kumar, I was slightly worried. The facet of the Thunivu trailer that really excites me is how the creators have shifted towards having a more comedic and light pitch to the bank robbery at hand. While Valimai was mostly a banal serious tone, there seems to be a light, almost carefree tone to Thunivu. I think its pretty clear that the movie will explore a Robin Hood situation where the heist itself is for the people due to the coffers of the rich and influential being filled at the cost of the common man. I mean, I can’t imagine Ajith Kumar with his star presence just having the intention to steal. I am a huge fan of seeing Majnu Varrier also be a badass element to the heist team. Beyond the dapper look of Ajith Kumar and the zany pitch of the film, I’m genuinely excited on where they take the film because a generic social message by the end of it will be such a bust and I hope that the movie goes beyond just being a celebration of the star with some cool action set pieces.
Moving on I was very excited to watch the Varisu trailer starring Thalapathy Vijay because I’m just a fan of the carefree and almost laid-back nature with which he carries himself. I won’t life though, Master was an average venture for me and Beast was a total snoozefest but as I am always hopeful for some surprises, I thought Varisu could do that, especially as I danced to the tune of Ranijthame before the trailer release but my god was I so wrong. Looking at the trailer of the family entertainer Varisu, I almost got confused whether I was watching a generic Telugu film or a Tamil vijay film. The film showcases, at least from the trailer, the quintessential stale commercial storytelling of familial conflict, leading to change of relationships and business practices, only for the youngest son, their favourite .whom might be a foster child to save the day and eventually be benevolent enough to leave it all for the love of his family. Everything about the trailer represents old wine in a new bottle, so much so that people are comparing it to Vijay’s own filmography of Sivakasi, Kuruvi and even Rajnikanth’s Annette. I hope the movie completely throws me off with spurting up some surprises. But other than a family drama unfolding, a romantic sub plot with Rashmika and some throwaway comedic punchlines with Yogi Babu, everything seems routine and I guess all my hopes are set for Thalapathy 67 because I know that will be a wild ride.
Yesterday however was the game changer, my absolute favourite, a man who is a genre himself, a cult that is immune to criticism, Nandmuri Balakrishna dropped the trailer of his upcoming spectacle VEER SIMHA REDDY. The universe of Ballaya is on a realm beyond objective thought. This is not where you ask questions about logic, doubt the capability and strength of the hero, pose debates about physics and the discuss concepts like gravity, this is a world that does not even require a plot or a coherent screenplay, you need to shout JAI BALLAYA and just enter the theatre on the opening weekend. Yes there is a possibility of two timelines of Balayya in this film? Yes there is a possibility of a double role? Yes Shruti Hassan is romancing Balayya? Yes Balayya will bounce his cigarette of a woman’s breasts! Yes Balayya will wield his axe and beat up hundreds of people! Yes Balayya will call out his fans to cheer his name by breaking the fourth wall! There are no rules and my man has created such a loyal following for this treatment and films, that they will defend it come what may! What’s crazy is that looking at the trailers of Thunivai, Varisu and Veer SIMHA REDDY, im actually the most interested to see what Balayya cooks up this coming weekend!
With the trailer of Walter Veeraya also dropping soon and the possibility that creators might be finally channelising the funny bone of Chiranjeevi with Ravi Teja, something fans have been dying to see, you know this coming week of releases is going to be absolutely bonkers, I honestly can’t wait for what’s in store at the theatres and don’t forget to comment what you’re most interested to see and why!
