The tender love story of Manu and Hardy unfolds from Laltu to London, infused with Hirani's trademark comedy and satire, making it an entertaining yet thought-provoking journey. While the film's take on the issue might seem simplistic at times and the humor a bit questionable, the expansive narrative, spanning borders and a 25-year time leap, captivates.
'Dunki' delves into unfulfilled aspirations and the pursuit of dreams beyond boundaries. It highlights the belief that reaching a first-world country promises a bright future, emphasizing the desperation to achieve it at any cost. 'London jana hain, pound mein kamana hain,' Manu insists at one point.
However, as the protagonists journey across continents, risking their lives to reach their dream destination, they realize that the reality doesn't match their imagined gleam. Their naivety regarding life as illegal immigrants is evident, leading to several tear-jerking moments throughout the screenplay.
