Folklore/folk songs are the most important attribute to know about any place or people of that place. Here we santhali people singing their folklores all the time while harvesting, while celebrating, while grieving for each moment they have song and this is how they keep their culture and values alive. And one important folklore among them is about their sacred land which is mysterious and cursed for them and a chance for exploitation and greed for outsiders. In this folklore we learn how this tribe believes there is a tortoise underneath earth which brought the land/soil on the surface when everything was under water. It's a sacred deity for them, and hence they never dig a hole or go try looking for what's inside this soil, so they do not disturb the scared tortoise sleeping underneath. Here we can understand why this folklore was written in the first place, so that people do not attempt to look for uranium under soil which is a radiation hazard and lethal for living beings. There was a sense of the balance of life that existed, but now that balance is being ruined by outsiders who are mining that land for uranium and kicking out of these people from their own land stating its health precaution. We see all this through a story of a couple who is grieving their daughter whom they lost, it's a parallel contrast to santhali people who lost their land and might not see it back ever again. Documentary does not emphasize on the crisis or measures which need to be taken, it focuses more on the people who are all either dying in the middle of this greed or running away leaving everything behind they knew since their birth. It's the documentary which makes you understand the agony and pain of those people, provides a lens to put yourself in that position and how you would have felt in the middle of all this. Nature is complex and mysterious and by destroying nature we are destroying the past and the future both.
