The Broken News

The Broken News is back with a new season, and it again proves why it's one of the bravest and most disruptive shows in the recent past. It not only makes some really potent observations about Indian media and its influence on the country's socio-political landscape, but also calls them out for creating a circus out of the journalism profession. The show does not shy away from taking real events that have tainted the legacy of Indian journalism in the past few years, and fictionalises them in order to try to put things in perspective about how harmful and most of all ridiculous it's all been from a more evolved and magnified lens. The show offers an interesting insight into the roots of moral and psychological corruption for people in the media, and approaches it from a rather nuanced place of empathy instead of anger, showing how complex these changes are and how many factors they are influenced by. It's a refreshing look into the death of courage & responsibility in journalism. The biggest reason The Broken News succeeds is because it recognises and shows that while the media may try to push certain ideologies and narratives down our throats, a lot of them themselves are only dictated by a greed for power, influence, money or worse, personal vendettas, and may not have any real personal interest or allegiance in the subject.
