I liked Crew.It is like if a heist film was actually an eat-the-rich film, but the eat-the-rich part was on a lo-fi, chill- hop beat. It is reasonably funny, it represents a fraction of middle-class struggles with as much honesty as the format of a mainstream film will allow, and it pulls a pretty decent gag at the expense of the business tycoon who fled the country. And except for the innumerable brand placements that were distracting me from the core of the film, it is a coherent watch. But personally, I really enjoy it when a heist film (especially one that refers to an actual socio-economic struggle) really commits to the messiness of the crime. You know, the stakes of it all the crisis that the characters face because of our middle-class morality, the thrill of succeeding laced with the guilt. Of course, this is a film that set out to be a light-hearted watch, and of course I will never not watch something with Tabu in it. I still wish that it accommodated a little more of the very real crisis that it hinges its story on.
