Rithik Parthasarathy
The film succeeds in all the technical aspects but unfortunately fails in the
storytelling. The performances were very promising and exceptionally done by Chiyaan Vikram, Parvathy and Pasupathy. Music by G.V. Prakash was outstanding and personally it helped me follow what was going on on the screen, or else I would have been bored as the film never sets up the stakes for the characters and events. We definitely expect highly from Pa Ranjith, but sadly Thangalaan missed the mark. If Chiyaan Vikram doesn't get The Best actor, then it's a shame on the National awards. The emotional connect was never there at various places and the structuring of scenes were odd to be honest. Political commentary was good as usual but were irrelevant and unnecessarily preachy at some places. The film though, was very unique and he has tried a new way of storytelling, which quite didn't work for me. Hope, he comes back with a bang in his upcoming films.
