MAN OF CINEMA
A predator always hides behind bushes and trees before it pounces on its prey.
Just like that Don Palathara draws parallel with predator Leopard with human Predator that exist in the closely knit family. This predator (Sony) hides behind the religion and disguises as a good human being in the society. Don Palathara shows how religion and society enables such predators to thrive in an environment where even questioning any single doubt or concern would be taken as the wrong behaviour. There's only a few glimpses and conversations from which you will understand the characteristic of Sony, but the film focuses heavily on what happens in the forefront, people losing their ability to call out truth as truth and condemn what is wrong. The religion and community kind of blinds them from seeing the whole picture and acting on it. The director uses an eerie atmosphere and metaphors to instill that unsettling feeling in you. It's always dusky and foggy and cloudy, like the atmosphere itself says that something dark always lurks around you, even if you see it, you are not able to recognise it. The movie is slow paced, but it was required for the mood. It slowly captures your attention and haunts you in a strange way. There is no single ounce of spoon feeding done in the story, you need to endure the whole process bit by bit and understand the nuances. Blind faith and blind trust over anything/anybody can lead to circumstances that you will not be even aware of.
