Synopsis
A novelist who's fed up with the establishment profiting from Black entertainment uses a pen name to write a book that propels him into the heart of the hypocrisy and madness he claims to disdain.

Streaming - VOD A writer with a writing block is fed up with Americansstereotyping Black community and culture. Why can't they represent black people as regular americans. As the writer Monk tries to sell his nuanced book,he encounters other Writters and people who just catering to white people Obsession about seeing blacks in tragedy, trauma and violence. So he decides to write one as joke as sarcasm to those other works, but this book becomes an instant hit. Along with this chaos he also deals with grief, depression, and volatile relationships. Writing of this movie is so good, it doesn't try to be preachy or in your face. Instead it acts as great social satire. Comic elements are also very subtle and situational, nothing seems forced. Monk's character is so relatable, that's what connects the audience with him. The fictional world of black people america is far different from the actual reality of those people. This movie shows sarcastic mirror to it.
I didn't had much expectations from this movie, but it was surprisingly reallygood and had a refreshing take on black stereotypes we have cultivated throughout these years.

Only an intelligent writing can explore the inherent hypocrisy of any culturewhile being funny. Enjoyed this apparent debut content of writer/director Cord Jefferson.
