This movie would have been an absolute masterpiece if there was no cliche angleof the kid loving teacher and going crazy for her. That just did not appeal to me and it takes away the focus and seriousness of the story. It almost made drop half star for the film, but what an emotional train wreck was that last 30 mins or so. That just completely blew me away. The film was setting up brilliantly towards the climax showing the hardships of banana plantation workers, how they were exploited with very minimal wage. We see all this through the perspective of kid shivanand whose childhood is burdened by responsibilities which he is not prepared for. That kid who played shivanand was just brilliant especially towards the end, his vulnerability,hunger, and sorrow all at the same time. Cinematography is so brilliant, some of the shots through the banana plantation are so good indicating how their livelihood depends on it. It's cruel, horrifying and sad. But a brilliant piece of film.
