Carol

Set in 1950's film explores Carol's suppressed desires, her sexuality, Motherhood and her failing marriage when she meets beautiful young Therese. It shows how this patriarchal society is hypocritical, to be a mother it's not enough just to be a woman, she has to be a devoted wife and ideal woman. But what is an ideal woman? The one who does not follow her heart and happiness? To be able to live with her true self Carol has to give up something more valuable, an identity of mother. The film so beautifully shows Queer mother's struggle, her mental state and her ailing desires to live an authentic self like she wants. The lesbian romance, the way it shows is so subtle, warming and beautiful. The film shows a genuine connection between two women, not stereotyped, understanding each other through unspoken words and gestures. Each moment between two actresses is so brilliantly captured, it's a contemporary romance and also an heartful exploration of suppressed desires, which we hardly saw in queer genre in this way.
