Trap, directed by M.
Night Shyamalan, is a suspenseful film that keeps audiences on the edge of their seats. With its intricate plot twists and brilliant cinematography, the movie showcases Shyamalan's talent as a filmmaker. The film follows a father- daughter duo who find themselves trapped in a concert and must work together to escape. As the tension builds and secrets are revealed, viewers are taken on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Trap is a must-see for anyone who enjoys a thrilling and thought-provoking cinematic experience. M. Night Shyamalan's film is a gripping thriller that artfully blends suspenseful elements with psychological drama. The film features Josh Hartnett in the role of Cooper, a seemingly ordinary father who accompanies his teenage daughter Riley (portrayed by Ariel Donoghue) to a pop concert. However, the evening takes a ominous turn when they discover themselves at the epicenter of a sinister occurrence involving a infamous serial killer recognized as The Butcher. The majority of the film unfolds in a concert venue, which Shyamalan uses to create a claustrophobic atmosphere. The setting has been cleverly selected, with the chaotic energy of a pop concert juxtaposing the underlying tension of the thriller. Josh Hartnett gives an outstanding performance, infusing his character with a captivating playfulness. His portrayal of Cooper, a man hiding a dark secret, is both engaging and nuanced.Unfortunately, the script does not always provide him with the material he deserves, frequently depending on unrealistic plot twists to propel the narrative forward. Shyamalan's direction exhibits both strengths and weaknesses. While the individual demonstrates proficiency in constructing suspense and crafting impactful moments within the film, certain elements appear to be lacking in thorough development. The cinematography by Sayombhu Mukdeeprom adeptly captures the chaotic energy of the concert, however, at times it overly fixates on the large screens rather than the performers themselves. Moreover, the film includes original music performed by Saleka Shyamalan in her role as the pop star Lady Raven. While the music contributes to the film's distinct atmosphere, at times it appears to be excessively utilized and consequently loses some of its intended impact.
Overall, Trap is a mixed bag.It has moments of brilliance, particularly in Hartnett’s performance and the film’s initial setup. However, the film struggles with pacing and coherence in its later acts.Fans of Shyamalan’s work will appreciate his signature twists and the film’s unique premise. However, others may find it lacking in depth and consistency. If you are in the mood for a thriller with a unique setting and a strong lead performance, Trap is worth watching.
