Chandu Champion is a sports biopic directed by Kabir Khan that tells the
inspiring story of Murlikant Petkar, the first Indian to win a Paralympic gold medal.
Kartik Aaryan delivers a promising performance as Petkar, capturing his grit and determination to achieve his Olympic dream despite facing many obstacles. The film highlights Kartik's potential as an dramatic actor and I am sure this is not his best and it's yet to come. The film features some strong dramatic moments and well-choreographed sports sequences. However, the predictable sports drama template and derivative nature of the storytelling hold it back from greatness. While the emotional connection lands at times, the light-hearted interludes feel functional.
The supporting cast shines, especially Vijay Raaz as Petkar's coach. Ultimately, Chandu Champion is a worthy addition to the sports film genre that celebrates the indomitable human spirit, even if it plays it a bit safe. The film's heart is in the right place, but it doesn't quite reach the heights it aspires to.
