Stranger Danger? Yes! But if that stranger charms you and lures you into aremote farm house so that he can kill you and take your daughter? Then he is fucking lunatic. Well that's what James McAvoy was in this movie. An absolute charming psycho. Movies spend lots of time on the characters, it makes the audience invest emotions in these characters especially that kid "Ant", so it takes time with the buildup, and it's good, it keeps the audience guessing and waiting for the twist to come and things to go out of hand. It happens in the last 20-30 minutes or so, and those 30 minutes what lets the movie down i feel. Because after that fantastic buildup you can't just keep things predictable and very convenient to get out of that situation, then it makes no difference between this and other films with similar plotlines. You just cant make things magically appear in their hands to get out the situation they are stuck in, you need make it bleed, there's need to consequences on both sides, you need to make them crawl out of that, but here in the end it all seems easy and all 4 gets out of it conveniently. That was disappointing for me, but i loved James McAvoy's performance, man the holds the movie together. Even that kid Ant was brilliant, that last scene where the camera is on his face, it shows relief on that face from all that pain and suffering, but still there's going to be lots of trauma he is gona carry. I just hope he doesn't become Paddy(James McAvoy)in the future! Good plot for sequel, cynical psycho killer who can't speak.
