Uprising, directed by Kim Sang-man, presents a lackluster narrative set during
the Japanese invasion of Korea. The screenplay can be criticized for its dullness and conventional storytelling, failing to engage with its unexciting characters and predictable plot twists. Despite the film's high production values and impressive period design, the performances from leads Gang Dong-won and Park Jeong-min do not elevate the material, often feeling flat. The film's action scenes, while visually appealing, cannot compensate for the overall mediocrity of the story and character development, leaving it as a missed opportunity for a more compelling historical drama.
