Paradise

Paradise is an interesting take on an apparently happy couple celebrating their5th anniversary in Srilanka when the island nation has declared bankruptcy and the people are protesting on the streets. They stay on a beautiful bungalow surrounded by misty mountains. Fuel becomes the most important commodity. When the house incharge lights up candles for dinner ,Darshana says it’s so romantic but the house help ironically says power cut . A robbery occurs not just putting the vacation in disarray but also shows cracks appearing on the marriage . Darshana starts enjoying the place without her phone whereas Roshan is miffed at his loss. Police investigation ensues and the sergeant is already under pressures and they pick Tamil labourers to solve the case . It’s quite a wonderful mix with the different versions of Ramayana , the lankan economic crisis and the Tamil-Sinhala divide are elements that add beautifully to the plot lines. When Darshana places her opinion to the tour guide bout the Jain version of Ramayana it literally comes back to haunt her at the end . Really liked the fact that there is very little exposition and the viewers are left to interpret the ending. It’s coupled by excellent performances from the leads and the supporting characters making it an engrossing watch !!
