woman outside is strong, successful, career oriented but inside she is sexually deprived, unsatisfied and feels isolated because of her desires. And the character's need for pleasure and desire for BDSM practice or masochism. But this movie never really achieves that rawness, explicitly, and emotional depth which haneke's movie provided. Here you never really connect to Romy's emotions, you will never root for her. It all just seems very rushed and not realistic. The movie really doesn't work for me on any level, no emotions, neither the sensuality nor the performances. Movies talks more and spoon feeds when it should be totally opposite here. The movie should let the audience feel those things that Romy is feeling and her desires. But instead the movie tries to dumb down the narrative so that we can understand her desires. Like towards the end where romy tries to explain to her husband about her sexual needs. It just does not work. But more power to Nicole Kidman for taking up difficult characters and story, she did her best. I think more A Listed actors should experiment with different complex characters. need more such attempts, but this movie really lacked in executing those major elements. 2024 really feels like the Year of women in cinema, so many movies like substance, anora, all we imagine as light, babygirl, night bitch, My old ass, Wicked, Love lies bleeding, Strange darling, Seed of sacred fig, Vermiglio all exploring different shades of women, their struggles and life, I loved all of them.
