Souleymane's Story

The film doesn't try to simply use its social drama to be tearful and touching, but the film comes across almost like a documentary of this man and his struggles which makes you emotional. Even though it's a social drama, but it feels like a real thriller against time, where every second every penny counts, making the racing scenes stressful and many moments of calm yet disturbing. The film really induces anxiety and fear and makes you remember and acknowledge the privilege you carry unlike these people. It shows the reality and despair of foreigners in a capitalist and dehumanized world where immigration itself is called into question. We see a character who is crushed by life's wrecking ball while trying to keep his head above water and just wants to live a peaceful life. Captures undocumented immigrant life experience, trying to keep himself Sane and alive and prepare for an interview which decides his fate. That final interview scene and ending leaves a deep silence in the room, Abou Sangare gave a brilliant performance, which makes us feel its real documentary of this man. But the story is real of thousands of immigrants everyday.
