Ullozhukku is a Malayalam action film directed by Christo Tomy and starring
Urvashi and Parvathy Thiruvothu in terrific performances. Set in the flood-prone Kerala city of Kuttanad, the film deals with the angst between two women, Leelamma (Urvashi) and her daughter in law Anju (Parvathy). The grieving mother Leelamma brings out Anju in the midst of her husband’s illness and secret pregnancy. The story explores themes of love, betrayal and forgiveness in the relationship and struggle between the two women. Her ability to convey sadness and patience adds a beautiful layer to the character. Tomy’s direction deserves praise for using the metaphor of the flood to add depth to the story.
