This absurd war satire has everything, from love, war, black comedy to human drama, political evolution of country, sorrow and pain… its a complete cinematic experience.
It tells an epic and satirical story about the history of Yugoslavia and its fall, through the journey of three main heroes: Marko, Blacky, and Natalija. Their personal lives intersect with pivotal moments in their country's history, from the Nazi occupation to the Cold War era and finally the civil conflicts. The friends Marko and Blacky fall in love with Natalija, the actress in the National Theater, and this love turns into a dramatic axis that intertwines with historical and political events, blending romance and betrayal and personal ambition with war and chaos.
Ita a visual chaos where music dances with war, and comedy with absurdity, to reveal a life that is lost and exploited in the name of the homeland.
But the saddest thing i got to know after watching this is, the director Emir Kusturica is now fascist himself and supports Putin and the invasion of Ukraine. What a shame!
