You see very rare wild west movies where the violence is not celebrated, not
romanticised by the killings, gore and striped down all the heroism, and portrayed brutal dog eat dog world and a hellhole where there are no clear villains or heroes, everyone fighting for survival, dignity and what little left of them.
It is arguably one of Clint Eastwood's finest movies. He tells anti-wild west story that shows the ramifications of violence, psychological suffering from the past trauma, struggle to live a decent life and the facade many young men wear in order to be a hero , but they are just cowards.
He re-invented the genre by keeping some classic tropes but by telling it through a story that feel the heaviness of brutal world. The performances in the film deserves special credit. Every character does a perfect job.
Unforgiven gives us something to think and reflect on our actions and the consequences and something to answer for.
