Vidaamuyarchi has its moments, like Arjun & Regina being the Joker & Harley
Quinn of the film; the action sequences are top-notch; the cinemaphotography is amazing; Anirudh's music is good; and how the actors communicate in Azeri and English to the locals instead of lazily dubbing the conversations in Tamil.
However, the film had some issues that weren't in the original Breakdown. For example, in Breakdown, it is easy for the truck driver to manipulate the cop into thinking that he didn't kidnap Kurt Russell's wife as the film was in the US and the truck driver looks like an average American truck driver with an average truck. In Vidaamuyarchi, how come the Azeri police didn't believe Ajith that Arjun kidnapped his wife? Like what are the chances of a Tamil truck driver in Azerbaijan?
Another issue I had with Vidaamuyarchi is they added additional storylines into the film, like the divorce and cheating angles and Arjun and Regina's roles, without tweaking enough of the original story. Had they changed some parts of the original story, the film would have been better. The film also had a habit of dragging certain scenes. In Breakdown, things happened very quickly, but in Vidaamuyarchi, everything seemed very slow.
Would I watch this film again? If it's on TV, then yeah, but if Breakdown is playing at the same time, then I'll choose Breakdown. Not to say I don't like Vidaamuyarchi, but I expect more for an adaptation.
