how the casteism, privilege and power enslaved the lives of hapless innocents by oppressing them with fear, exploitation and manipulation. This ruthless relationship between master and peasant is like the relationship between a devil and its slave, no matter how much atrocities the devil causes in your life, you will still obey and follow your master out of fear and helplessness. A vicious cycle from which you can't escape but also can't live in it. Mammootty who played the Patellar character, embodies the role of devil so perfectly, now i understand from where the reference point for the character in "Bramayugam" comes from. He emanates privilege, pride and ego in his portrayal of Pattelar, acting as a complete asshole throughout the movie. This is how you make a film about a negative character. But towards the end patellar blinded by his ego, greed and power forgets that he is a slave to his own impulses and how it destroyed them. Showing that consequences you bear are the results of your actions. Towards the end, patellar is reduced to wearing only a dhoti, bruised, beaten, lost and eating the same portion of food, in a way Pattelar and Thommi have become equals. But Thommi still treats him as a master with blind loyalty. That was so bizarre to see. Its almost like Thommi has become a shadow of patellar, and when patellar dies, he frees from the forced and feared identity that he embodied. This film shows why oppressive systems endure not only through tyrants but also. through ordinary people who inhabit them in their lives, interpret themselves through them, and even seek stability and state of existence within them. If you apply this master and slave relationship across politics, marriages, workplaces, or caste structures, the pattern repeats. power/domination becomes intimate and natural, obedience becomes habit or routine which pushes into believing this is what we deserve.
