I haven't watched 2026 Wuthering Heights, before that i wanted to watch a worthy adaptation and it led me to this Japanese adaptation and damn is so fucking good. I would say this might be the closest and most honest adaptation in the medium of cinema. Even though the director adds the japanese elements of curse , a legend and set in a much earlier era compared to the novel, it is still the most haunting, violent and intense version you will see. By transposing the gothic Victoriana into a barren mountains of medieval Japan, The film perfectly mixes gothic romance, horror and Japanese traditions into an otherworldly drama of ghosts, feud, passion and romance which goes beyond the grave. It highlights the ugliest nuances, bleaky mood and the dark hearts of the original novel like no other.
