Tokyo Sonata

A great family drama through socio economic lenses.This is set when the world was struggling with recession and most people have lost their jobs and earnings. Sasaki is one of those middle aged men who has lost his job and can't tell it to his own family because of shame. You need to understand in Japanese society honor and work are two most important aspects of being a perfect man. This film shows all this very perfectly. Then there are two children of Sasaki who have their own interests but those desires are always turned by his father. This is where his family starts to scatter. This movie really captures that feeling when the boat is gone and water is filled till your neck, it's hopeless to dream but yet you try to survive somehow from drowning. It also captures family dynamics, authoritarian figures of the family and how his decisions affect the family.
