The Archies

If "Student Of The Year" was made in 1960s.The Archies is based on archies comics, and it does less than decent effort to give that feel and vibe of comics with all the goofiness, cute adolescent romance, and silly humour. But I don't know if musicals huge were part of archie comics or not. I never really read them. Because some of the musicals used in movies didn't really land for me, neither provided any joy or other emotions. Some of the songs/musicals I enjoyed were Suno, Va va voom , Anniversary song, and politics song. Also coming back to perspective of archie comic reader and non reader watching this film, i bet archie readers will enjoy this even more than non readers. Because the life of this movie is its characters, and their friendship which i guess was very special to comic readers. I as a non reader had mixed feelings about the movie. More disappointing even in terms of acting and performances from the overall cast. Some young actors don't really pack that punch with their acting maybe because most of them were debutants, but some experienced young actor like Mihir Ahuja who played "Jughead " does good job. There were many concerns after trailer release that this look so out context when it's related to india, this was not an india 1964. But Zoya Akhtar found a way to land these non indian characters in the heart of india using effects british colonization, i really liked that. And the film talks about community, roots and friendship and all of those things were nicely conveyed to viewers, but story writing wise film really falls flat and feels like soft launch project for star kids. It also talks about important issues like capitalism and environmental concern, but it did not really take a serious or realistic turn, it was all handled casually and conveniently. It all becomes predictable after some point how this movie will end. Film length of around 2 hour 30 mins is also a concern, should have been kept short. Overall if you are fan of archies comics you will enjoy it, if you are non reader then it wouldn't bring much for you on the table, will be disappointed by performances and story.
